OMVIC License Practice Test & Course – Prepare for the OMVIC Exam in Ontario

Open-book exams have a way of making people overconfident. Ontario's OMVIC certification exam, 60 questions, 90 minutes, administered by the Automotive Business School of Canada at Georgian College on behalf of OMVIC, lets you reference your course materials the entire time. It still requires 80% to pass, and most people who fail run out of time flipping through pages they've never actually opened before.

That's the real skill being tested: can you find and apply the right rule from the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act or the Consumer Protection Act fast enough to finish 60 scenario questions in an hour and a half. Knowing the material cold, rather than just knowing it exists somewhere in your binder, is what separates a pass from a scramble.

The path to registration:

1. Enroll in and complete the Automotive Certification Course through Georgian College.
2. Sit the 60-question, open-book exam. 80% required.
3. Submit your OMVIC registration with a Canada-wide criminal record search.
4. Wait for review, OMVIC typically acknowledges within 10 business days, decides within 30.
5. Your certificate is valid two years for registration purposes.

No prior automotive sales experience is required to enroll or test. Individuals already certified elsewhere in Canada may qualify for a temporary deemed certification while their full application processes, confirm eligibility directly with OMVIC.

What's tested: the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, Consumer Protection Act disclosure and advertising rules, OMVIC's Code of Ethics, and the contract law fundamentals that determine when a sale becomes binding.

Preparing beforehand means knowing where the relevant rules live in your materials before the clock starts, rather than discovering the index during the exam. That alone can be the difference between finishing and running out of time on the last ten questions.
